Break those glass ceilings:’ Raleigh event focuses on women in law enforcement

The LGBT center in Raleigh, held an even on Tuesday to discuss the importance of women in law enforcement. The event invited community members to get to know Police Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown, and women in law enforcement to come and discuss their experiences in a male dominated field.

Durham businessman pledges $1M in scholarships to NC’s historically black colleges

Greg Lindberg, founder of the international investment firm Eli Global, has pledged one million dollars in scholarships to students who enroll in one of NC’s historically black colleges.

Area refugees from Burma try to help those back home

Approximately 300 people from Burma’s Kachin ethnic group are now living in North Carolina, having escaped the persecution of their people, and now gather to discuss conditions in their home country and gather funds to send to people still living in Burma.

Grant to help digitize North Carolina slave records

UNC Greensboro was awarded a $300,000 grant by the National Historic Publications and Records Commission to digitize slave deed records from across the state.
