Calling All NC Women

>>March 17^th Kicks off a Week of Action at Women AdvaNCe

I juggle a lot. In fact, I impress myself each week with how much I manage to accomplish: I am a mother, a daughter, a friend, an employee, a volunteer, a cook, a chauffeur, a pet-walker, and a grocery shopper. I don’t have time to take on more—and yet here I am, taking on more and asking you to join me.

Women need us. Women systematically face issues that keep too many of us from getting ahead. In fact, 42 million women across America are struggling to get by because the deck is stacked against us when it comes to making ends meet. The cost of childcare alone cripples our family budgets. We need paid family leave and sick days to help balance our roles of breadwinner and caregiver. We need things to change!

We can only create change when we combine our efforts. Women AdvaNCe is partnering with The Shriver Report, the Center for American Progress, and the NC Justice Center to make sure that the women of North Carolina have a voice in this nationwide conversation about women’s issues. I ask you to join me and take part in any of these “Week of Action” activities at Women AdvaNCe in the week ahead.

JOIN THIS CONVERSATION:

•  MONDAY, MARCH 17: >>Host a Watch Party for the premier of “Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life and Times of Katrina Gilbert.”  This film, produced by Maria Shriver, tells the story that so many of us live today. The film airs at 9 pm via FREE streaming on HBO. Learn facts that you can share to help educate others.
•  FRIDAY, MARCH 21: >>Attend our “Leveling the Playing Field” webinar at noon, zeroing in the struggle of North Carolina women to make ends meet. Leave this webinar with action items to help spark change in your community.

PUT YOUR OPINIONS IN PRINT:

•  THURSDAY, MARCH 20: Join in on a panel discussion at UNC-Chapel Hill about the lack of women’s voices in today’s newspapers and magazines. This event will take place from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm >>Hyde Hall’s University Room.
• SATURDAY, MARCH 22: >>Come to our writing workshop from 9:00 am to noon to get hands-on experience crafting your opinion piece under the guidance of Karen Kemp, a communications expert from Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy.

Activities like these can create the spark for change that women really need. There is nationwide momentum behind these issues. Your participation means a lot to the board and staff at Women AdvaNCe as we look ahead to our organization’s first birthday on March 25th. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by joining together with each of you across this great state of ours.  Let’s work together to level the playing field for NC women.
