Women, Stop Destroying Society!

>>workingmotherAs we’ve seen from the >>recent attacks on women’s health in North Carolina and >>throughout the country, nothing gets conservatives riled up quite like seeing women in charge of their own lives and >>standing up for their rights.

So, as you can imagine, there was tremendous wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth in conservo-world when >>a study from the Pew Research Center revealed that women are the sole or primary breadwinner in 40% of American households with children.

Fox News’ “League of Men” had a hissy fit about the study, saying the increase of female breadwinners marked the end of civilization as we know it. (Thankfully, >>a pregnant Megyn Kelly was on hand to school them.)

The survey revealed that 63% of  breadwinning moms are single mothers. But while conservatives cried about the decline of marriage in American culture–although they really shouldn’t worry about that; the rise of gay marriage will make getting hitched cool again– and the erosion of the family, none of them seemed concerned about advocating for policy solutions that could actually improve the situation for families.

These improvements would hopefully include:  comprehensive sex education in schools and >>universal access to reproductive health services, so that women, married or single, who don’t want to be mothers don’t have to be. Or >>legislation that would make it illegal for employers to pay workers differently based on gender, so women can finally make as much money as men for doing the same job and be better able to support their families.

Fine; women are destroying society. But you can’t have a society without us, and we’re not giving up the right to work or the right to control our bodies. Maybe it’s time to figure out how we change society so it >>supports and empowers working mothers, rather than vilifies them.
