The Fitness Class You Must Attend

If it’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s that no matter how goal-oriented and driven we are, having someone to check in with and hold us accountable helps maintain our forward motion. I witness this with work, with home, and with personal goals like fitness.

I’ve worked out at least four days a week for as long as I can remember, but recently I started going to a group fitness place for a few of those days. We’re all sweating it out together, laughing, cursing, encouraging – but the benefit extends beyond the hour. When I think of skipping the gym, or grabbing that extra beer or piece of cake, I think of the women at the gym. More often than naught, it stops me from undoing the hard work I’ve done so far.

So, why am I telling you this? It’s because I have a group “fitness” class you need to attend. Don’t worry, you can leave your sneakers at home. The fitness I’m referring to is a larger concept than elevating your heart rate. I’m talking about elevating your life and the lives of those around you.

The NC Women’s Summit at the Global Learning Center at Bennett Colleage is quickly approaching on November 4th. The staff at Women AdvaNCe, with the help of some fabulous volunteers and community partners, has been working on the event for the last six months and the programming is empowering.

More on that in a minute. First I want to tell you why you should consider coming. Chances are, if you’re reading our Daily Advances and following us on Facebook, you’re already politically engaged. You already care about what’s happening and not happening in our country. My question is, what are you doing about it? The NC Women’s Summit is a chance for more than 100 women to gather in one place for eight hours of education, sharing, and camaraderie. Think of it as a boot camp for Empowerment.

Our theme for this year is Thriving Through Change . It was chosen with careful thought and consideration. The last year has been tough for many of us. We’re experiencing thoughts and feelings about our Democracy we didn’t know were possible. We’re watching the dismantling of programs that actually were aimed at taking two steps forward in our communities. We’re haunted by the uncertainty of war and retaliation as our President Tweets and Twirks his way around the White House.

Yet, we must thrive. We must overcome this. We are better than this. The NC Women’s Summit will kick off with some fabulous presenters, including State Senator Terry Van Duyn. We’ll then focus on three key areas: Economy, Education and Healthcare. Each panel will be lead by an expert in the field, accompanied by people who have real world experience.

After a fabulous lunch, we’ll have break out sessions focused on leadership, self care and more. This is a new approach for this Summit. We recognize we all come in the door with different needs and goals, and the afternoon break outs offer the opportunity to customize your experience.

The experience is affordable. We have Under 25 tickets for $25 and regular pricing for $49. There are also scholarships available. We want this to be an inclusive event. We want to cultivate collective accountability that will stay with us for months after November 4th.

I hope you’ll join us.
